BOOK REVIEW: Mister B by A. Lynn Byk

When I first started reading this book I felt like I’d just friended a friend on Facebook who was the quintessential vague-booker.  You know exactly what I mean.  We all have at least one friend who drops hints about something going in as if begging for you to pay attention, and when you do they don’t want to talk about it or ‘message me’.  Either say it or don’t post it.  Vague-Book is grounds for unfollowing, just saying.  There were hints and side comments dropped about other issues going on in the author’s life but it was never really spelled out or explained.  I couldn’t drop the idea of vague-booking.  It got better but I still don’t know what, if anything, those little drops added to the story.  I was doubting the wisdom of requesting this book just to be disappointed.  But, suffice it to say, I’m super glad I […]

BOOK REVIEW: Colors of Christmas by Olivia Newport

BOOK REVIEW: Colors of Christmas by Olivia Newport

I wasn’t sure what I expected when I picked up this book.  I knew it wouldn’t be the normal sweet everything is love and light during the holidays book that many centered around Christmas usually are.  I actually appreciated the author’s note at the beginning where she talks about the fact that for many, Christmas also signifies the line between the first time without vs the last time with.  You generally don’t know it’s the last time until it’s over.  I would assume that if people were honest that the holidays are more about the memory of what has been lost than a true embracing of the season as love and light.  Christmas can be hard. Another thing I really appreciated with these two stories is that they don’t try to be bigger than they are.  They aren’t trying to be a full-length novel with a full slate of time.  […]

Remember back when I told you about my Beth Moore download spree when I found several of her books free on Kindle?  Here’s another book from that day (way back in 2014!) that I STILL haven’t read. Among Beth Moore’s very best-selling books to date is Believing God, a powerful study of Isaiah 43 and Hebrews 11 that centers on one simple yet bold question: do you believe God or merely believe in Him? Moore explains how God’s plan is for the believer’s life to really work so all will know His promises are entirely true. When we begin to take God at His Word, the result is a […]

Don’t forget to check out her blog and link back to Lauren’s Page Turners. I’ve read this author before and have really enjoyed her books and writing style.  Quintessential ‘chick lit’ with some depth.  I’m not sure the story on his this particular book came into my possession but it’s set on the book shelf entirely too long. Birdie Cousins has thrown herself into the details of her daughter Chess’s lavish wedding, from the floating dance floor in her Connecticut back yard to the color of the cocktail napkins. Like any mother of a bride-to-be, she is weathering the storms of excitement and chaos, tears and joy. But Birdie, a woman who prides herself on preparing for every possibility, could never have predicted […]
