It’s a truth universally unacknowledged that sin will hunt you down and advertise its presence the moment you try to hide it. Emily Byrne sits in her daughter’s classroom listening to the deepest wishes of twenty kindergartners as she sketches them. Davia Cordell came to Rockland for one purpose–find her son’s father before she dies. An ex-prostitute, she’s well aware that the news will cause waves, but what’s a mother to do? In case you’ve forgotten my love of all things free Kindle books, and free Beth Moore to boot, then here’s another gem from that long ago download spree to remind you!  Yes, there’s still so many that I need to read.  I’m a slacker m’kay? In Jesus, the One and Only, best-selling author and Bible teacher Beth Moore invites you to know Christ personally. Watch and listen as He breaks up a funeral by raising the dead, confronts conniving religious leaders of His day, teaches on a Galilean hillside, or walks on the waves and calms the storm. Like a ragtag band of followers two thousand years ago, you […]

BOOK REVIEW: 365 Classic Bedtime Bible Stories by Jesse Lyman Hurlbut

BOOK REVIEW: 365 Classic Bedtime Bible Stories by Jesse Lyman Hurlbut

Let’s talk for a minute.  I was sorta excited when I was notified that Barbour Publishing reached out to me via NetGalley to review this book.  At the time I didn’t even give a moments thought to reading an illustrated children’s book via my Kindle app.  Until… Goobie broke the tablet.  Without a tablet that left me with two reading options.  My phone, which while convenient is small and my computer which is very inconvenient but has a large screen.  Obviously, the quantity of reading I do the phone was the only option.  Truth be told, I spend more time swiping pages than reading since I’m like old and blind, but it works.  Until children’s books with illustrations come along.  The Minions of Mischief aren’t allowed to play on my phone so reading with them on it was a challenge.  I couldn’t hand them the book with a ‘have at […]

In ‘The Gift of Christmas Past‘ by Cindy and Erin Woodsmall Hadley Granger is a foster child with a lot of baggage and a lot of anger.  When things get too much, Hadley finds comfort in the beauty of the mountains, specifically at the French Broad Overlook. Are there any special places in nature where you find God’s peace in an especially powerful way? I’ve personally not […]

BOOK REVIEW: Loving Luther by Allison Pittman

BOOK REVIEW: Loving Luther by Allison Pittman

I have no idea where I want to start this review.  I actually finished the book yesterday and while I had time to write and schedule it I didn’t have a clue what I wanted to say.  Guess what?  24 hours later I still don’t.  Let’s say this: I’m very ignorant of the reformation period and Martian Luther.  I mean I know it’s a thing but it’s not a thing I’ve ever studied about or learned about.  I’ve picked up nuances here and there but that’s about it.  I didn’t know when (like years) it all happened or even where (Europe anyone?).  I just knew some guy decided that the Church was getting too big for it’s britches and he nailed a manifesto (of sorts) to the church door.  That’s it.  I didn’t know he was a former priest, I didn’t give any thought to his home life and spouse […]
