Reflections is a weekly meme hosted by Kristin of A Simply Enchanted Life and Fizzy of Fizzy Pop Collection. Every Sunday we will dig deeper in our recent reads to explore the real-life lessons within the pages. Reading the book yourself is not necessary to participate. If you would like to host your own reflection, you’re welcome to copy and paste this introduction, with the link to our pages. You may use our current or prior reflections or come up with your own. BOOK REVIEW: Steal Away Home by Bill Coffey

BOOK REVIEW: Steal Away Home by Bill Coffey

Before you remind me that I don’t like sporty things and of course I wouldn’t care for a book centered around baseball I have to tell you.  Baseball is what saved this book for me.  Yes, I don’t do sports.  I don’t mind going to a stadium and watching a game.  I don’t understand the game or really even care about the game but there’s something about the energy and spirit (if you will) about a crowd come together for something they are passionate about.  And cuties.  You are NEVER too old to appreciate cuties.  That goes for almost any sport, almost.  You will never see me curling up on the sofa to watch a sporty thing on TV, outside maybe like figure skating or gymnastics.  Oh and diving, I really like platform diving.  I picked up this book with the idea of a coming of age story between a […]

BOOK REVIEW: Missing Isaac by Valerie Fraser Luesse

BOOK REVIEW: Missing Isaac by Valerie Fraser Luesse

Posted January 2, 2018 by Fizzy Pop in book review, Valerie Fraser Luesse / 0 Comments

This book spoke to me on some level.  When I saw it come up for review I was a minute or 1440 minutes too late to nab it.  NetGalley to the rescue!  As a debut novel Valerie Fraser Luesse hit it out of the park.  That being said I’m sitting here looking at a mostly blank screen and struggling to rate and even review the book.  The synopsis sold me on a story about a young southern boy in the 1960’s who would stop at nothing to find out what happened to his dad’s friend, a man he looked up to, that happened to be black.  That’s not quite what the story delivered to me.  I loved the story, I truly did but reality did not meet expectation.  I had to adjust my  expectation to find that reality was handing me a pretty amazing book of community, faith, friendship, love, […]

Anticipated Reads Winter 2018

Anticipated Reads Winter 2018

With the new year comes new books.  New books just fuels the need to read all the books.  In the quest to read all the books I’ve compiled a short list of books that I’m looking forward to releasing.  I have to add the caveat that the Minions of Mischief have created a delay for my Winter list since Meme Christmas always happens on New Years Eve and I am a procrastinator that somehow bought the lie I told myself that I could work while they were here.  Yeah..um about that.  It’s a day late but that’s OK.  Enjoy! I’m going to break them down over the next three months as I comb through books coming out that I can’t wait to get my hands on.  Trust me, this is no where near a comprehensive list!
