Let me tell ya’ll a story about this book.  I have looked forward to reading this book for more than a minute.  I finally found a gap in my craziness to be able to get it into my schedule.  I was excited.   I need to just stop being excited and stop thinking that things will go as planned.  I finished it just a wee bit ago and I’m exhausted and slightly cranktacular (it’s a thing, go with it) and I don’t even have the blog post set up.  And…I’m on sketchy internet at The Old Folks Home (I call it that just to irritate my mother :D) and I just want to get it down but the eyes are burn-y people.  Let’s talk about the book for a minute since I’ve now official whined about me, my neighbors 2ish AM party this morning, burn-y eyes, coffee overdose … This is […]

RECIPE: Surprise Muffins

RECIPE: Surprise Muffins

Posted February 2, 2018 by Fizzy Pop in Recipe, Sweet Treats / 0 Comments

I discovered this recipe while reading ‘The Celebration‘ and came across it again in ‘Amish Cooking Class Cookbook‘ so I knew I had to make it.  It’s a fun surprise for the Minions and a delicious snack for myself.  I chose to mix it up a bit though as grape jelly is not a go to for me so I don’t usually have any on hand.  And Moo Moo is allergic to strawberry so we get creative around here.  She’s discovered a love for Apply Jelly.  I chose to use Strawberry Preserves (for me) and Apple Jelly to fill my muffins.  The pictures are toast so I apologize for that.   My kitchen does not like to give me shadow free pictures and my phone can swear to have the best camera on the market but it doesn’t account for user error which always leaves my pictures blurred.  The muffins though […]

BOOK REVIEW: Amish Cooking Class Cookbook by Wanda E. Brunstetter

BOOK REVIEW: Amish Cooking Class Cookbook by Wanda E. Brunstetter

I’m gonna be right upfront and honest here.  I didn’t get the entire cookbook but a sampler of the cookbook.  What I did have access to though makes me want to own the entire thing.  Not that I necessarily follow recipes (once, I’ll give it once before I start fizzyfing it if I like it).  But I like recipes.  I like the promise that a new recipe holds for Fizzy’s Kitchen.  I like the idea that someone has created something that I want to cook for myself or the Minions. I loved that this cookbook starts with telling about all the students that took Heidi’s class (including her and Lyle).  A brief bio and their favorite foods were a cute addition to this collection that really does tie the books together.  The recipes from the books are also included with this cookbook as well as many others.  I also loved […]

BOOK REVIEW: The Celebration by Wanda E. Brunstetter

BOOK REVIEW: The Celebration by Wanda E. Brunstetter

I was a little leery when I sat down to read this book over my weekend.  I’ve talked to a few readers who struggled with the book.  Mainly the sheer number of characters but a few other smaller things as well.  If you have ever read one of my reviews you know that if you give me more than one character I tend to get confused.  Heck sometimes one is too much unless they are named Janet (shhh, don’t tell anyone my real name m’kay?).  As a rule sitting down to read Wanda is relaxing.  Her simpler writing style with uplifting messages of love and hope are perfect when things are weighing.  A book I can get lost into for an hour or two.  I was nervous starting this one after some, not all, of the feedback I’d heard. I was pleasantly surprised.  Yes, there are a load of characters.  […]
