Boston, 2015 Two years after nearly losing her life in the Boston Marathon bombing, Annie David is still far from “Boston strong.” Instead she remains isolated and defeated—plagued by guilt over her niece, crippled in the blast, and by an antique ring alongside a hazy hero’s face. But when she learns the identity of her rescuer, will he be the hero she’s imagined? And can the long-past history of the woman behind the ring set her free from the guilt and fears of the present? Boston, 1770 As a woman alone in a rebellious town, Liberty Caldwell finds herself in a dangerous predicament. When a British lieutenant, Alexander Smythe, comes to her rescue and offers her employment, Liberty accepts. As months go by, Alexander not only begins to share his love of poetry with her, but protects Liberty from the advances of a lecherous captain living in the officers’ house […]

BOOK REVIEW: A Name Unknown by Roseanna M. White

BOOK REVIEW: A Name Unknown by Roseanna M. White

When this book came up for a tour with Celebrate Lit I KNEW I had to read it.  What’s not to like?  Set in England at the cusp of World War I a London street orphan meets a reclusive friend of the King.  Two worlds collide sorta thing with intrigue and sass thrown in for good measure.  Intrigue on both their parts, sass most definitely is all Rosemary.  It’s more than just a romance at a time of impending war.  But it’s also more than just a romance.  Peter has a hard time expressing himself in person.  He’s also got a pretty big secret, bigger than just his lineage; though that’s a big deal to him as well.  Rosemary steps in to find his history but ends up finding a whole lot more. I loved Rosemary.  She’s spunky, sassy but at her core she’s got a great heart.  She puts […]

BOOK REVIEW: Wings of the Wind by Connilyn Cossette

BOOK REVIEW: Wings of the Wind by Connilyn Cossette

I’ve been flying through the books in this series, I’m so invested in the characters and the way that the author has the talent to take this period of Biblical history and made it so real and alive.  I was ready to jump into the lives of these people I have fallen in love with.  I realized that the names for the synopsis were not one’s I’d seen before.  Perhaps children or grandchildren?  Perhaps a continuation of Jumo or Dvorah’s story a generation later?  Perhaps?  Well, I made myself stop perhaps-ing and jumped into the book with glee.  And pulled up on the excitement.  I was jumping back in 40 years later, just as the Israelites were on the cusp of taking the promised land.  Shira was there, Kiya was there but what about Ayal and Jumo and Ebon?  I was sorta kinda maybe perhaps becoming interested in Dvorah and […]

BOOK REVIEW: What the Bishop Saw by Vannetta Chapman

BOOK REVIEW: What the Bishop Saw by Vannetta Chapman

Honestly, I’m not even sure where to begin.  It’s no mystery that you can win my heart by giving me a mystery.  Given a choice I’ll always go mystery, it’s just my niche.  However I have other preferred (please, you know I’ll read ‘anything’ except technical manuals people) genres and when you mix any other genre with a mystery it’s going to be right up my alley. Add to that an author that creates characters and setting that embraces you like a best friend and it can’t go wrong!  Henry Lapp suffered an accident as a child that resulted in a savant gift.  That gift, later in life, brought him into the English world in a way most English never get involved with.  After this encounter Lapp and many of his friends chose to relocate from their home to join a fledgling community in Colorado. There was so much to […]
