I’m somehow drawn to challenges. Song challenges, writing challenges, Sims challenges, just about any challenge. While tossing around blog ideas with my partner in crime the idea to do a monthly challenge came up. I was hesitant to move this to the blog but then tossed it up and said ‘why not?’. Here you have it, my first 30 Day Challenge.
Every day this month I’ll post a Gratefulness or Gratitude prompt. I’d really enjoy hearing your input on this prompt as well in the comments below. Today’s prompt:
Wow, this prompt is um. A form of movement? Like…does my car count? I’m lazy. I’ll admit it. Looking back over this year I have to say I’m grateful for the ability to walk. With the issues with arthritis in my hips for most of my adult life walking is something I didn’t realize I’d taken for granted. Yes, it hurt sometimes but I could get around just fine. However the issues with my knees this year, especially with the ginormous issue with my left knee since June and the occasional need to pick up the cane to stay on my feet, walking is one of those things that I realize is a gift. The non-cane days greatly outnumber the cane days but I’m grateful that regardless I can still walk. Sometimes greatly painfully so, but I can walk. I’ve never been a runner (I’m the only weirdo I know that holds their breath when they run, for legit, my entire life). I don’t enjoy dancing. Though right up there with walking is the ability to talk with my hands. It’s been said that I probably couldn’t have a conversation if my hands were tied behind my back. Writing and typing are vital to my interaction with the world. The movement of my hands is prime for life as I know it. But walking. Walking gets me from point A to point B, without or without a cane. Walking allows me freedom and easy independence. Yes, I could totally have that without the ability to walk but… My knee has taught me that walking is movement that I am so grateful for. Almost tied with my hands 😀
