ABOUT THE BOOKS
Title: The End Begins (Seven Trilogy #1)
Author: Sara Davison
Publisher: Ashberry Lane/WhiteFire Publishing
Genre: Romantic Suspense
One of them is a prisoner and one of them is free. The same one.
Bookstore owner Meryn O’Reilly and Army Captain Jesse Christensen are on opposite sides of a battle. When martial law is declared, Jesse and his platoon are sent to Meryn’s city to keep an eye on the Christians and make sure they are not stepping outside of the confines of the law.
Fiery and quick-tempered, Meryn chafes under the curfew and other restrictions to her freedom. Jesse is equally amused, intrigued, and terrified by her spirit, knowing she could find herself in prison if she shows defiance to the wrong soldier.
His worst fears are realized when she commits a crime he cannot protect her from. Now they both face an uncertain future, and the very real threat of losing everything, including their lives. With time running out, Jesse works feverishly to convince the authorities to show leniency to Meryn. And to convince her that love can overcome any barrier that lies between them.
Title: The Darkness Deepens (Seven Trilogy #2)
Author: Sara Davison
Publisher: Ashberry Lane/WhiteFire Publishing

(formerly The Dragon Roars)
Their Secrets Protect Them … But Secrets are Hard to Keep
No one in the army can find out that Captain Jesse Christensen has become a believer. He and bookstore owner Meryn O’Reilly are forced to meet in secret, facing imprisonment or worse if they are found together. Their relationship deepens, but so does Lieutenant Gallagher’s hatred for the Christians in their city. As Gallagher’s power grows, it becomes clear that his connections go much further up the chain of command than anyone realized, putting all believers, especially Jesse, in extreme danger.
Meryn wants to give her heart to Jesse fully, but her past holds her back. Although circumstances conspire to keep her silent, she needs to tell him her secret. When he finds out what she has been keeping from him, nothing will stand between them anymore.
Or nothing will ever be the same.
Title: The Morning Star Rises (Seven Trilogy #3)
Author: Sara Davison
Publisher: Ashberry Lane/WhiteFire Publishing
Genre: Romantic Suspense
In the Midst of all the Fear and Confusion, Only One Thing is Clear … This Isn’t Over Yet
Jesse Christensen is out of the army, but the real battle has just begun. Major Gallagher has taken over the city and his oppression of believers has intensified. But is Gallagher acting in a professional capacity, or is he carrying out a personal vendetta?
Meryn O’Reilly faces a dark and uncertain future after shocking revelations devastate her life. She is determined to follow God’s call, but her plans could cost her everything. She and Jesse struggle to surrender fully to a God who is always in control, even when circumstances suggest otherwise.
With the world descending into chaos around them, Meryn and Jesse face the greatest barrier to their love yet—a barrier that may prove too strong to breach.

Review
I’m sure as I go through this review, and the next one on Friday, that things might get sketchy or even wacky. Here’s the deal. I read this series in one fell swoop without really taking a break between them to gather thoughts that were necessarily book specific. I didn’t have time for that as my head was spinning in all the directions at once. If you remember with ‘The End Begins’ on Monday I was steeped in the idea that Canada could get mean and the world might not choose to react the same way the United States does. Who knew we weren’t the center of the universe? (I kid.) Before we get into another big topic I need to address something else. This book, this series, is re-released. That means some things have changed. Normally that’s little things like covers, synopsis, some cleanup with editing. Every book deserves it’s chance to find it’s audience and sometimes you gotta do a little update. If you go to Goodreads you aren’t going to find ‘The Darkness Deepens’. Originally this book was titled ‘The Dragon Rises’. That does have some small relevance to this book, if you are paying attention. I think the new name suits it better. I also think that I was made to be the audience for this book and this series.
OK, minutiae aside let’s get to the heart. Remember what I said earlier about getting a bit all over the place and not necessarily streamlining to the book? This is that moment. Everything that is happening with Meryn and Jesse (and their band of family) starts on 10/10/2053 when ten mosques are bombed in Canada. This is important because an extremist ‘Christian’ group calling themselves ‘The Horsemen’ take responsibility. Bear in mind the quotes because, well book three is coming Friday and it’s all relevant. Sidestep, sorry let’s get back to my thoughts. Let this sink in for a minute. A fringe group (that no one has heard of before) that claims to be Christian takes responsibility for bombing several mosques and the government starts cracking down on Christians and declares martial law in order to control them. Seems a little over the top right? But. As a society aren’t we already doing something similar to this? Aren’t we as a society, as a country, as Christians, already holding all Muslims responsible for what a few extremist Muslim groups take responsibility for? Just because you follow a different path, a different faith from someone else does not make them bad or worse, evil. Just because a few of that group do evil things does not make all of them evil. How can we, as Christians, expect our society, or government to stand with us it has already been proven that it can turn on anyone based on affiliation? I feel like the sense of Christian entitlement, especially in the US and *developed* world, is misplaced at best and arrogant. Christians are already persecuted for their beliefs throughout the world. They are killed for their beliefs. They are tortured for their beliefs. Our beliefs. If we can hold all Muslims responsible for the heinous acts of a few what can we expect for our own futures with known Christian extremist groups waiting in the wings? It’s only a matter of time before those tables can be turned and we are on the other side. The wrong side. Of a situation we helped to initially create. That is what I keep taking away from this series. This book.
OK, now that I went all politically heavy on ya I’m just gonna say it. Less romance would make a world of difference for me with this book. I love the addition of more of Meryn’s family and the growth in Jesse. The intrigue is really ratcheting up a notch as we near the final installment. Gallagher is a world class jerkwad toadnugget. Annaliese is a case and a half. The evil that surrounds her is so well captured in this book. Meryn and Jesse are starting to annoy me a little bit. Even as I finished this book and prepared to start the final one I still felt like so much of what was happening was being told to me so the romance could take center stage. Personally, as I know others will resonate with the romance, I would love more action and suspense and intrigue and trills and less of all the rest. I feel like they both come across as weak and self-absorbed which detracts from all they are doing for the cause. Perhaps it’s me? Perhaps you don’t agree, or do. I’m just one woman reading one book (at a time) who is completely invested in this series. And Friday? I’ll bring you all about ‘The Morning Star Rises’ and more of where my mind settles as I read this series.
