When love feels reckless, faith can lead the way.
In a desperate attempt to find her missing brother, Victoria Castleton leaves behind the comforts of Boston for the wild beauty of Yellowstone National Park. Her search leads her into the path of Roger Bernhardt-a gifted British artist with a guarded heart. What begins as a chance meeting soon becomes a journey neither expected.
Roger came to America seeking inspiration, not entanglement. But from the moment he sees Victoria's determined gaze, he's drawn to her quiet strength-and the mystery of the brother she's willing to risk so much to find.
As their path leads from the wonders of Yellowstone to an Idaho ranch called Eden's Gate and the small town of Gibeon, Victoria and Roger discover that God's plans often look nothing like their own. When danger threatens the town and hearts are tested by fear and longing, they must decide if the love growing between them is only temporary-or the home they've both been searching for.
A story of second chances, steadfast love, and the courage to follow where God leads.
Oh, Roger, Roger, Roger. With the heart of an artist and the soul of a poet, he’s so adorably, if not infuriatingly, awkward. Oh Roger. Finishing up the fourth installment of The British Are Coming series, with only one left to do for the April book for the Christian Fiction Reading Challenge. Yes, the fifth book is the only one for the challenge. Yes, to this point, they could completely be read as a stand-alone with zero issues with continuity. Hatcher has done an amazing job of blending in just enough of a ‘previously on’ vibe throughout the story, when relevant, to really build previous characters and their relationships. But that’s not how we do things here in Fizzyland. It’s all or nothing when it comes to series, and that’s how we ended up here.
Roger was free to extend his American stay and give up all the things he never wanted after his father passed away back in England. With a wanderlust to travel and paint the beauty of the American west the last thing he wanted was to be rooted somewhere. That was part of the things he never wanted. Then there’s Victoria, who left the security of her Boston home to try to find her brother, whom she had not heard from in ever so long. Somewhat of a fool’s errand, she wants to find her brother and bring him home to consistency and safety, and roots. The most perfect, old-timey, opposites-attract setup. But can wanderlust and roots ever find a harmony without one giving up their dream?
Like any good romance, you know how it will end. But it was oh-so-fun getting to that point. Both of them needed a good scolding now and then for just being obtuse, failing to communicate with each other, and being stuck to what they want instead of maybe what they need. There were a few parts that just didn’t do it for me bout overall it was a really good read. Real talk: I have purposely not looked at the premise for the next book yet. All the British that came to America have been accounted for, so someone is coming, I just don’t know who. But for all the gravy, if I don’t get William’s love story in this last book, I’m going to toss a protest and insist he gets his own story. I’m too invested in him to not see his life line out too. He’s too good a guy not to find the girl after marrying off all his other friends along the way.
