Nikki Boyd's flight into Nashville was routine--up until the crash landing at the airport. When the dust settles, Nikki discovers that the woman who had been seated next to her on the plane is missing--and no one will admit she was ever there. Erika Hamilton had been flying to Nashville with an air marshal as a key witness in an upcoming grand jury trial. When she flees from the crash, is she running from trouble or straight into it? Before Nikki can even see her family, she and her team are pulled into a missing persons case where the motives are as unclear as the suspects.
Bestselling and award-winning author Lisa Harris has planted danger around every turn in this can't-put-it-down thrill ride that will leave readers stunned.
So this is how we are going to play this Lisa Harris? Seriously!?! Back to book 3 in the Nickki Boyd files (still on audio, but that’s OK), and we are going to open with a plane crash, a missing protected witness, and a prison riot turned hostage situation, and it’s only the first day. Seriously?!? No romantic catch-up, no downtime between cases, nope, we are going straight to crashing a plane. Prepare for a bumpy ride (pun intended) as we solve the case of the missing protected witness.
This book really drew me in, despite the narration I’ve struggled with throughout. There was no slow-burn buildup to the action; I mean, we started with a plane crash for all the gravy. There was so much action, both big and small, that built an engaging story that kept me listening even when I needed to stop for, well, real life. I’ve lost track of the body count, but it’s growing every book. Being in orbit with Nikki Boyd does increase your risk of not making it out alive . . . just don’t be a minor-ish character! And I’m pretty sure she’s been shot, at least shot at, in every book. Sometimes more than once.
The small, quiet moments built into the story sometimes felt partly distraction from the action, but also so true to real life. The romance is still brewing, but it feels like more a given than a building at this point. It just happened without a ton of fanfare, which I completely appreciated. Nikki is so unrelatable to my life while she’s out there go getting and I’m slothing. But her internal flaws, I feel that so much. I have one more book with her which I anticipate to be just as seat of the pants but I’m also hoping to see some resolution to the thread of her missing sister and how her and Tyler’s relationship pans out. I don’t know that I’m ready for that last chapter with her. I guess we’ll find out soon enough.
