During Garrett Addison's first week on the job as a criminal investigator for the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, his team is called out to a murder scene of a young girl. She's the third victim in a string of disappearances with one thing in common--a Polaroid photo of each victim left behind at the crime scene.
The FBI is pulled into the case to help, and Garrett finds himself working with Special Agent Jordan Lambert, the woman he once loved. When yet another girl dies--number six--Garrett blames himself and believes he doesn't have what it takes to be an agent. What he'll discover is that, while he may be done with the killer, the killer is not done with him--or Jordan.
Bestselling and award-winning author Lisa Harris unveils an unforgettable story of a case that has haunted the public and law enforcement for more than a decade. Fans of the Nikki Boyd Files will thrill to finally discover what actually happened to Nikki's sister, Sarah. New readers will become instant fans after devouring this chilling tale.
Lisa Harris, we gotta talk. What are you doing to me?!? Who is this Garrett and Jordan, and where is Nikki? I literally kept double-checking as each chapter progressed that I was reading the right book. No mind you, it’s probably literally my fault as I was a bit obtuse, but I’m still going with Lisa Harris, what are you doing to me! I mean, I didn’t think I needed to go back and read the synopsis as I was now four books deep into Nikki Boyd. I saw those years at the start of each section, but didn’t think about those years. Then boom . . . Sarah Boyd was mentioned, and I was able to piece it all together.
Once I figured out what was going on (and it took about a 3rd of the book for me), I decided that Lisa Harris might actually be a genius. The first 2/3rds of the book is basically a prequel. I get the story of the Angel Abductor before Sarah’s disappearance, Sarah’s disappearance, and even what came after, but before we met Nikki. The last 1/3rd, the conclusion we all needed, especially Nikki. And Lisa didn’t forget to give me all the twists, turns, body counts, and action I’ve come to need from her. Nikki is there, more in cameo form than in the thick, so she got to avoid some of the action . . . I mean, trip wire bombs, getting shot, car accidents; Lisa always brings the action. We also get low-key life updates on Nikki, so it’s not like she was absent; just life was happening as well, and it was a really cool way to wrap some hanging threads for her from the series.
Let’s talk Garrett and Jordan for a moment, as they are the stars of the show. Yes, they are working the case (off and on) for over a decade. But really, their story is more about the long-standing romantic tension that crackles between them. I mean, over a decade of the feels, but holding it all back because they don’t want to ask the other to alter their life. I mean, you know it’s true love when you never move on . . . for over a decade. A decade! Yes, my heart is black and cold. And yes, most of the romance formula irritates me more than engages me. But honestly, I was rooting for them to figure it out already. Another amazing book that perfectly ends this series, and now I’m ready for the next one!
